In the world of teacher pipelines, supply isn’t keeping up with demand. During the ’22-’23 school year, a record number of 9,587 Pennsylvania teachers chose to leave their positions. By contrast, the state’s Department of Education only issued 5,101 new certifications in 2022. There’s a critical teacher shortage in the state, and our team is eager to be part of the solution. Recently, we partnered with Point Park University to help roll out a new on-the-job Bachelor’s Degree in Education program to fill some of the gaps. Point Park’s Residency Program supports aspiring teachers already working within the state’s school system to pursue a bachelor's degree in special education. What’s exciting about this new approach to the candidate experience is how it removes many traditional barriers that keep aspiring teachers from pursuing degrees, such as high tuition costs and intensive nights and weekends time requirements. Learners are still taking university-level, faculty-run courses, but are putting the focus on real-life skills, applying educational theory directly into their on-the-job experiences. With the residency model, students can capture much of their coursework while assisting with the day's lessons in the classroom. We have a teacher shortage crisis across the country. Solving this problem starts by removing the systemic barriers that hold people back from becoming teachers in the first place. We're thrilled to partner with Park Point University to reimagine a more affordable, accessible, and relevant teacher-education model.

I will be chairing the 56th Annual Convention of the Northeast Modern Language Association (March 6-9, 2025 in Philadelphia, PA). It is an excellent opportunity for both teachers, researchers, scholars and grad students to present their research paper at the largest academic conference in the world. "(R)evolving Masculinities: Rethinking Representations in Global Literature" Abstract In recent years, the concept of masculinity has undergone significant (r)evolutionary changes, challenging traditional norms and representations. This panel seeks to explore these shifts through a comparative lens, focusing on Anglophone literature while also delving into non-European literary traditions. By bringing together doctoral scholars, this panel aims to showcase diverse perspectives on how masculinity is re-evaluated and represented in contemporary literary works. Topics of interest might include but are not limited to the following: · Challenges and Constructions of masculine identity · Deconstructing Masculinity in Anglophone/ European/English Literature · Masculinity and Power Dynamics in Postcolonial Literature · Power struggle of the intersex and transgender · Masculinity in Non-European Literary Traditions · Construction of queer identities and practices · Subversion and Resistance in LGBTQ+ Literature · Gender-fluidity, flexibility and spectrum in Films and or but not limited to literature. · Non-conformity to biological or psychological queer identities in south Asian literature. · Representations of Vulnerability and Trauma Through these presentations, the panel aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and critical engagement with the (r)evolution of masculinity in literature, highlighting the significance of comparative approaches in understanding global shifts in gender representation.
